Shel Silverstein

The books that I have literally picked up and read over and over throughout my life are those written by Shel Silverstein. He was a poetical genius. No matter how big or small, young or old, you will enjoy Shel's awesome imagination and illustrations.
Here is one of my favorites...
LISTEN TO THE MUSTN'TS
Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child,
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be.

Trees, Smokey the Bear & Chili
This last weekend was the annual cutting of the Christmas tree. We headed up to the mountains of Pine, Colorado with Papa and Grandmas and hiked the snow covered forest for the perfect tree. Once we found it, lost it, and then found it again we cut it down.
Next stop... Smokey the Bear. Every year we pay a visit to the giant furry guy. This year Roxy wanted no part. How can you blame a 2 year old for crying at the site of a giant bear in jeans? I mean, really.
We followed this scene with a chili lunch at the volunteer fire department and pictures with Santa. Again, Roxy was not interested. Guess what she's getting for Christmas!
All in all, it was a super fun day that we look forward to every year.

Steuben's

We love food. There is no question or hesitation to that statement. Love. Good. Food. When we have the chance to go out we prefer going to independent, locally owned restaurants. We love trying new ones and will often go back to some of our favorites.
Steuben's is one of those that we are forever fond of. Their dishes are 'America's cuisine and American's interpretations of the dishes of our diverse cultural heritage'. I couldn't have said it any better. From their signature fries to whiskey braised beef to cookies and a shake... it's America on a plate.

The Dish

If you know us or have been reading our blog for a while you'll know that we love Jamie Oliver. Like L O V E ! He is our go to guy in creating our weekly dinner menus. We admire his simplistic approach to food and his passion for good ingredients. Every single recipe we've made from his books is outstanding. We have too many favorites to list, however, here are a few...

All photos direct from his website. Check it out!

Cancers New Voice

In our lives, we all know one. That special person with strength that we cannot understand. A battle that we cannot feel. A fear that we cannot fight for them.
My brother and sister-in-laws dear friend, Jenny, is traveling down this road that so many women have traveled and are currently traveling... breast cancer. Jenny is an amazingly talented artist who currently lives in El Salvador as a missionary volunteer with her husband and two children, working with the Salvadoran nonprofit, Enlace.
I admire her strength in all of this and the emotion that she puts into her work as a result of her enemy. Shown are two museum quality posters she created. Take a look at her Fight Cancer Store for more cancer kicking goods.
Jenny, you are a real warrior.

Polish Presents

The stars must all be aligned... the MODgirls were so blessed to receive a sweet surprise from the ever so lovely, Isabelle! This beautiful little Polish card and darling wooden colored pencils traveled all the way from Warsaw, Poland! They have been in the grip of the girls' hands ever since. Thank you sweet, Isabelle! You made our day!
Pack your bags and head out for a day trip to Isabelle's blog, Lou & Tom, named after her two ridiculously cute kiddos, and peek in on her life in Poland, swoon over her fantastic finds, listen to some good tunes, or simply get lost with her picturesque photography. It'll be a visit you won't regret!

Classroom Creation

At the beginning of the school year I volunteered (my dad said he learned in basic training to NEVER volunteer for ANYTHING) to help out Luxe's K class with a 'Classroom Creation' that will be auctioned off at a big fundraiser this month. Well, to my surprise, I was the only one who volunteered. After a night of cold sweats and nightmares, I came up with this idea... to photograph the kids each holding a different object and then to print them out in b&w and attach them to some nice black card stock with matching envelopes for an assortment of cards. Here are a few of the photographs. I hope it's a hit!
A gigantic MUCHAS GRACIAS to my lovely sister-in-law, Misty, for all of the help on this during the 'photo shoot'!
